About the event
This is a short workshop with Joan Larson. The fee for this workshop is $35 for members. Joan will be showing us how to work with charcoal abstractly. Here is a Materials List from Joan:
Charcoal Powder - I have lots, one container goes a very long way. However its inexpensive and you may want to buy one and share it.Watercolour Paper - it must have a layer of gesso applied as it seals the surface of the paper. I use old watercolour paintings and gesso over them. Bring more than 1 if you like as we will have time to do a couple of pieces. Size is up to you but larger (full or 1/2 sheet) is more fun.Erasers - all sorts from kneaded to plastic to electric. My favs are kneaded and plastic. Charcoal - pencils, sticks, hunks, pieces, whatever you have, bring it. Gloves - this is messy business (really messy), you will want gloves. Spray bottle with waterBrushes - preferably 2 - 3” (cheap chip brushes work great)Drop Cloth in case we are working indoorsOther odds and ends to create texture such as: palette knife, scraper, chunk of plastic wadded up (makes an interesting texture on wet charcoal).NOTE: Don’t go out and buy a lot of stuff for this, most of the work is done with a spray bottle and a cheap brush.
