Join me, Eileen Williamson in this one day workshop where I will share my approach to acrylic landscape painting. I love using colour so prepare to be bold, paint loose and have fun. We will begin with basic composition: shapes, values, how to view the subject, what works and what doesn’t. We will move from a simple sketch to a finished painting. I will demo and provide one on one along with helpful hints that makes the painting practice a little easier.  We will work from the same reference photo which I will provide. If time allows and you have a

favourite reference photo you want to paint - bring it with you and we can do a quick study.

Tylor McNeil has been a full-time professional oil painter since 2017, with gallery representation in Halifax, Nova Scotia, at 14 Bells Gallery, and working with The Butchart Gardens in Victoria, BC.

 

Workshop Description – Beginner portrait workshop, focusing on the Zorn palette. Students will learn the fundamentals of colour mixing and receive step-by-step instructions on how to paint a portrait.

Come and learn specific alcohol ink techniques such as wet on wet, wet on dry, faded wisps and the difference between regular and metallic inks.

Bio:

Shirley White is a self-taught abstract artist based in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Working primarily with alcohol ink and mixed media, she creates fluid, layered compositions that explore movement, balance, and intuitive mark-making. Guided by both experimentation and restraint, her practice has been shaped through mentorship with international artists and an ongoing curiosity about process-driven abstraction. Her work continues to evolve through exploration of

flow, texture, and quiet visual tension.

Abstraction is defined as “the process of removing complex details to focus on core concepts, ideas, or general rules”

Each layer can be what you feel in the moment, from your memories, or something that inspired you just before you arrived here today. Eventually the surface starts to speak to you (based on my experience.)

About Etsuko

Growing up in Tokyo, Etsuko found joy in singing, dancing, drawing, and

painting—creative ways to express feelings that words could not always hold. Even during a busy corporate career in Vancouver for decades, art stayed close to her heart. Since returning to Vancouver Island 10 years ago, she returned to painting, while also teaching yoga in the community.

Now, as a full-time painter, Etsuko feels most alive when building layers on canvases connecting her soul with mother nature and the world around her. She as been an active member of Ladysmith Art and Cowichan Valley Art and represented by the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. Her works have been juried in Fine Art shows and she has done multiple Solo, Duo and Group shows on the island.
