Roger was born in the UK, came to Canada as a child on the last of the 4-funnel steamships, the Aquitania. His formative years were spent in Stratford Ontario. Although his interest in art has been life-long, he didn't start painting until the early '90s when he attended a series of continuing education courses. In 1997 he was transferred to Calgary where he met his most-influential instructor and mentor, Marija Petricevic, who challenged and encouraged. He was juried into the Federation of Canadian Artists in 1999 and has maintained Active Status membership to date. As his working career was winding down, they moved to Vancouver Island in 2008, settling in Mill Bay. Now retired . . . whatever that is . . . he has been able to devote more time to his painting, participating in numerous art events, even doing some instructional workshops. He believes it is important to keep nurturing creativity in others.
