About the event

This is a 2 day workshop with Joanna Ridley . The fee for this workshop is $120 for members. In this two day workshop you’ll learn beginner tips and advanced techniques to create beautiful colours and textures in this versatile medium. 

The first day will consist of demonstrations and allow you to try different techniques before starting work on your final piece, which will be this beautiful Owl (photo reference kindly provided for our use by photographer Les Liddle).

Day one we’ll cover:

     - basic materials, tools, and surfaces for drawing with colored pencils 

     - blending and layering techniques for rich colour     - creating highlights using subtraction techniques and tools     - using different pencil strokes to create fur, feather and wood textures     -tips to create realism

Day two we’ll dive into our project and use what we’ve learned!

Recommended supplies:

     - Hot press watercolour paper (the image we’ll create will be 8x10”)     - Kneadable eraser     - White eraser     - Soft brush to remove pencil dust (I use a clean large makeup brush).     - Faber Castel Polychromes coloured pencils - recommended colours: Warm greys 1-6, cool greys 1-6, white, black, Payne’s grey, walnut brown, dark sepia, nougat, burnt umber, brown ochre, ivory, cadmium orange, orange glaze, earth green, sky blue, green gold, Naples yellow, dark Naples ochre, raw umber, cream, light yellow ochre, dark indigo, olive green.
